Friends House

Founded by Quakers, open to all

Located on 62 gently rolling acres in Sandy Spring, Maryland, Friends House offers older adults an affordable and fulfilling retirement experience in a secure and caring setting. Just north of Silver Spring and east of Olney, the campus is close to excellent medical care, shopping and museums.

Operating under the care of Religious Society of Friends, we welcome senior adults regardless of race, color, disability, gender identity, age, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, national origin or familial status. A nonprofit organization, we are guided by these Quaker values:

Simplicity

Peace and nonviolence

Integrity

Community

Equality

Stewardship and sustainability

Beginning in 2017, Friends House will embark on a major redevelopment project to allow more seniors to reside in our community. This expansion will create additional housing options, including new apartments and cottages, to accommodate a wide range of income levels. Thanks to a smart, efficient and sustainable design, the expansion will actually increase the amount of green space and preserve the pastoral spirit of the Friends House campus. All new residences will exceed Montgomery County’s requirements for energy efficiency and promote safe, sustainable and graceful aging in place.

Our mission

Founded on Quaker values and open to seniors of all backgrounds and abilities, our mission is to build a community through caring. By connecting residents with other seniors, volunteers and staff, we nurture the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of all individuals.

Friends House Retirement Community does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability or familial status.
