Christmas

Holiday time is here – bring on the cheer! From the holiday tree lighting to numerous holiday get-togethers, and the delicious aroma of freshly baked cookies filling the air outside the Bistro, the holiday season brings joy to our hearts at Friends House!

Whether our residents are lighting their menorahs, sipping eggnog, planning their Kwanzaa Karamu, or simply looking ahead toward the new year, the Friends House community is spreading joy – now and all year long. Moving from a long-term, family home into senior living can be an adjustment, we know, especially during the holidays. That’s why we work so hard to sustain our community as a warm and welcoming home for seniors. Here’s what sets Friends House apart:

Our Care.

Friends House is prepared to offer the care and support needed for our residents to age safely and comfortably – regardless of what challenges they face. As a Life Plan Community/Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), we provide a full spectrum of residential healthcare options, including independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing. Whether our residents are just looking for a hassle-free option without home maintenance, require a little added support for activities of daily living, or could benefit from our 5-star rated skilled nursing, we’re here to provide exceptional care whenever and however we’re needed. Once a resident has joined our community, they have priority access to higher levels of care should the need arise.

Our Culture.

While the varying levels of care available to our residents nourish the body, our culture nourishes the soul. At Friends House, we are dedicated to building a close-knit, enriching community through caring. In this mission, we follow our founding principles: focusing on Spirituality, Peace and nonviolence, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship and sustainability (SPICES), we’re able to foster friendships, creativity, and a sense of purpose, allowing our residents to truly flourish. In addition to the various socials, events, committees, and activities available in our community to encourage active lifestyles, our residents can further pursue their passions by attending special concerts, lectures, and films, and visit museums within the D.C. Metro and Baltimore areas.

Our Campus.

Serene walking trails? Check. Lush collective gardens? Check. A tranquil pond? Check. Teeming wildlife? Check! What some people are most surprised by at Friends House is just how green our campus is – literally and figuratively. Our community is located on 62 gently rolling acres, which allows our residents to be surrounded by nature. Enjoy the songs and sightings of many birds, watch a family of geese meander across campus, see beautiful butterflies enjoying native plants throughout the gardens, and keep an eye out for those mischievous squirrels.

While the fresh air and picturesque landscapes are certainly beneficial to the health and happiness of our residents, the members of our community also find joy in dedication to sustainability. Through small changes, such as composting kitchen waste, discontinuing the use of pesticides, recycling, and adding native plants to support pollinators, we’re able to make gradual contributions to bettering the world around us. However, that’s not all we’re doing. Because sustainability has been one of our founding principles for more than 55 years, we’ve committed to making environmentally conscientious decisions a priority.

Our People.

Unmatched, exceptional care, fun and encouraging programming, and a thoughtfully sustained campus have made Friends House a desirable destination for many seniors. But what’s the number one reason people choose to move here? Our people. Friendly and welcoming residents, our dedicated staff, and warm-hearted volunteers are the heart of this amazing community. Whether it’s the hardworking facilities team making sure our residents can fully enjoy the striking campus, the salon professionals making residents feel as beautiful as we know they are, the culinary experts offering a variety of menu options, or the Program Committee coordinating a trip to a new art exhibit, the people at Friends House have helped transform these residences into homes. Our people are special. Without their commitment and creativity, we couldn’t provide the top-level care and welcoming, active lifestyle that Friends House is known for.

“The Friends House Community is like no other,” says Anthony Cinotti, Director of Sales and Marketing. “The difference you feel setting foot on this campus is remarkable. Any organization can construct buildings, but it takes a special place to cultivate this level of community… this feeling of home.”
