Cottage Living
   
Independent cottage living provides residents with well-designed private living space.  The Cottages at Friends House range in size from 604 sq. ft. to 1914 sq. ft.

    Occupants of the cottages enjoy all the benefits of the retirement community while living in an individual house.  The residents join the apartment residents and other in social functions, on committees and working on special projects.

Services included in the monthly fee:
   
* periodic painting of interior and exterior
    *removal of snow and ice
    *grass cutting
    *equipment and appliance repair and replacement
    *mechanical and structural repairs to the unit
    *administrative service

    Services available to residents include weekly housekeeping, three meals a day at the Community Center and a range of health care services.

Community Living
   
The Community Center provides ample and attractive public living space for residents.  Three meals daily are served in the dining room.   Daily menu choices are provided.  Take out meals are available.  Friends House operates its own in-house food service, concentrating on wholesome and nutritious home-style cooking.

    Social life is encouraged through diverse and well-planned community facilities.  Meeting areas are available for Resident's Association in planning and carrying out social, recreational, and community activities.  The Community Center includes a 100 seat dining hall.   The library is adjacent to a comfortable lounge with its own fireplace.  Craft areas are provided for activities such as art, sewing, woodworking, etc.

    Also available in the Community Center at an extra charge are beauty and barber shop services and a resident operated country store.  Public transportation is available to many nearby cultural, educational, and recreational facilities in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
